A Signal from Home
Chapter 2 · 1 min read · Nora Kade
Juno spent two hours trying to convince herself the passenger was a prank. Then the ship received a transmission from a frequency that had been silent for three centuries.
The message contained seven words: BRING THE GARDEN HOME BEFORE THE DAWN. It repeated until Pax unplugged the receiver.
The girl from the crate called herself Lyra. She remembered streets full of trees, rain that had never tasted metallic and skies without orbital debris.
No one believed her, least of all Juno. But the seeds in the hold began to grow in their sealed containers, reaching toward Lyra whenever she walked past.
Juno watched a stem break through its glass case. Her rules had kept her alive for thirteen dangerous years. For the first time, she wondered whether breaking one might save someone else.
